HC Refining Maintenance

High-consistency refining overhauls — filling exchange, cartridge bearings, seal direction and dial-gauge alignment.

FunctionFibre fibrisation at high consistency
Key partsFillings / seats · bearing unit · mechanical seal
AlignmentDial gauge + wedge blocks

1 · Equipment Overview

FunctionMechanical fibrisation of fibre at high consistency.
FillingsBalanced rotor + non-balanced stator fillings, fixed on seats.
BearingsCylindrical-roller radial + thrust bearing.
Seal water≈ 3–6 L/min depending on seal type.

2 · Maintenance Process

PreparationRetract rotor; open bottom valve; shut water / steam; disconnect and flush seal hoses.
Remove seatsKeep two bolts, fit lifting tool; lift rotor / stator seats together to service position.
Filling renewalFit new fillings on seats; clean refining-zone faces with non-abrasive tools.
Remove rotorMark radial position (off seating zone); pump oil until it shows at shaft end; monitor pull-off with dial gauge.
Mechanical sealReplace seal; note orientation (drain port down); plug removal — beware antifreeze splash.
Bearing unitLift out cartridge unit; liquid gasket on joint (one bead each side, not excessive); torque to spec.
Rotor refitOil taper; drive-up mount; keep shaft level — never sling from the seal area.
AlignmentDial-indicate rotor–stator; adjust wedge blocks and spring preload; re-check after several working travels.
Flush & ventHot-oil flush bearings (no cooling water); vent seal-water circuit (loosen joints until air-free); verify flow.
Trial runJog → ramp up; bearing vibration spectrum; re-check alignment; refit seats. Note: never move the shaft axially while stationary — if unavoidable, bar the rotor manually with the lube station running.

4 · Acceptance & Handover

Fillings seated on clean faces; rotor–stator alignment within tolerance and re-checked after wedge preload; mechanical seal correctly oriented, vented and leak-free; bearing unit gasket-sealed and hot-oil flush passed; trial vibration spectrum and re-alignment normal.
